If all goes well, more of Oregon State’s opponents will be reading the name and number on the back of Damien Martinez’ jersey than on the front. You knew it was coming either today or tomorrow, but here he is. The #2 choice in our Top 20 Oregon State players countdown goes to none other than star running back, Damien Martinez.

Oregon State knows they have a heck of a talent in their backfield with tailback Damien Martinez, but just how good the play-maker headlining the Beavers offense may be is still yet to be determined. Is Martinez simply an above-average Pac-12 discovery, who might be the best runner in the conference, or the one of the nation’s best rushers overall?

In 2022, Martinez put his name in the conversation of torrid national ball-carriers by rushing the ball 161 times for 982 yards, as well as finding the end zone seven times. The Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Of The Year and the all-conference first teamer also tallied a mark of six straight games of 100+ yards on the ground to end the regular season. Now, the Beavers will just want the Lewisville, Texas native to eclipse that coveted 1,000-yard plateau.
