Oregon State Football: Most Valuable Player Countdown - #13 Sumner Houston

The senior center cracks the list.

The college football season is just around the corner and Building the Dam’s countdown continues with lucky No. 13.

#13: Sumner Houston - Offensive Line

Houston is a 6-foot-2, 290-pounder from Dublin, California, Sumner Houston spent the first half of his college career as a nose tackle on the Beaver defense. In 24 games at that spot, he accumulated 34 tackles. Last season, he made the switch to the offensive-line to help shore up the center position.

He replaced Gavin Andrews and played in all 12 games at center with 11 starts. Although he had his ups and downs in his first season on the offensive-line, he was very solid for the Beavers. Headed into his senior season he was once again named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. Which is given to the top center in college football.

Yesterday during Oregon State’s live scrimmage the running game showed great potential. The backs combined for 237 yards on 33 carries and Jermar Jefferson rattled off a 69-yard touchdown run. The veteran offensive line played a big role in the offensive output.

A starting quarterback has yet to be named, but whether it’s Jake Luton, Conor Blount or Jack Colletto; expect Sumner Houston to be snapping him the ball and coaching the offensive line. If the Beavers want to shock some teams they are going to need big-time performances from Houston and the rest of the offensive line.
