The college football season is just over one month away! With the off-season quickly coming to an end, Building the Dam is unveiling their top 30 most valuable football players for the 2018 season. We’ll countdown by previewing one player at a time until it’s almost time for some Beaver football.
#27 Isaac Garcia
What a weird strange road it has been for Isaac Garcia and the Beavs. A heralded recruit out of Bellevue High School, Garcia was at one point headed to USC before eventually signing his LOI with Gary Andersen. Many expected him to contribute to the Beaver pass rush right away, but unfortunately Garcia was not eligible for what should have been his first season in Corvallis. Eligibility concerns taken care of, fans were hopeful to see Garcia take the field in 2017, but again the unexpected happened. Just before the start of camp it was announced that Garcia was no longer on the roster and would not be playing for Oregon State. It was later revealed that Garcia intended to head to the JUCO route. Last December he bid Corvallis adiu via twitter announcing he was headed to Arizona Western with the intent to end up back at the D1 level in a year. Two weeks later plans changed. Following a meeting with Johnathan Smith, Garcia decided to return to Corvallis after all.
What a weird journey it’s been.
I, for one, am excited to see what Garcia can bring to the field this fall. He is listed on the roster as an OLB in Tim Tibesar’s 3-4 scheme and should be able to provide a spark to what has been a lackluster pass rush the past few seasons. Due to not being on campus in 2016 and not playing in 2017 Garcia is still a freshman having used both his grayshirt and redshirt seasons, so Beav fans will hopefully have 4 years of Garcia reeking havoc on opposing offenses. If Garcia lives up to the potential he showed in high school he will be much much higher on this list by the end of 2018.
What say you Beaver Nation? What do you expect from Garcia this fall?
Our countdown continues tomorrow with #26... Who will it be?
