The college football season is just over one month away! With the off-season quickly coming to an end, Building the Dam is unveiling their top 30 most valuable football players for the 2018 season. We’ll countdown by previewing one player at a time until it’s almost time for some Beaver football.

#18 Kee Whetzel- Linebacker

Yesterday’s news that Jeromy Reichner was out for a significant portion of time was a huge hit to the pass rush, and will put more pressure on the outside backers to get to the QB... Enter Kee Whetzel.

Whetzel, who was one of two OSU reps at PAC-12 media days enters his sophomore campaign with a very good chance of locking down one of the outside backer positions. A 3 star wide receiver in high school, the speedy Whetzel was moved to outside backer by Gary Andersen and his staff. After redshirting his first year on campus, Whetzel saw plenty of action in 12 games last season including one start. One the season he compiled 26 tackles, 21 of which were solo. He added three tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, a pass breakup. Whetzel also showed of his receiver hands in the civil war while catching a pass on a fake punt.

There is a very good chance that the end of year will see Whetzel much higher on this list. I expect him to fill the role left by Bright Ugwoegbu’s recent departure. Just like every other team, OSU will need to get some pressure on opposing QB’s to have any success on defense and Whetzel will be a Kee component of accomplishing that task.

What do you think Beaver Nation? Is Whetzel too high? Too Low? Just right?

Will OSU finally have a pass rush again?

Should I stop with the puns? (I’m not going to no matter what you say).
