- Despite the Beavers losing out on in-state, three-star tight end Teagan Quitoriano to the Ducks, the folks over at the Oregonian are liking the way the whole turf war between Oregon head coach Willie Taggart and Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen is shaping up. It seems as though both Taggart and Andersen have dished out their fair share of digs at their rival school, including Andersen declaring the Beavers as the state champions, after winning last year’s Civil War battle.
- Due for a bounce-back season on the hardwood after missing most of last year’s 5-27 campaign due to injury, it’s possible that Beavers forward Tres Tinkle plays his way right into an all-conference selection by the end of the season. But Pac-12 Player of the Year? It’s not that farfetched of an idea according to Connor Hope over at Busting Brackets, who wrote why he believes the 6’ 8” forward has a solid shot at the accolade.
- Oregon State cornerback Xavier Crawford turned some heads during his freshman season in Corvallis, when he tallied 70 tackles, one sack and one interception in his breakout campaign. But now, it seems like the USA Today Freshman All-American is poised to cement his spot as one of the best defensive backs in the Pac-12, with a renewed level of focus and a changing mindset on how to approach the game.
- A unique non-revenue sports link for the die-hard fans out there in Beaver Nation comes from the Corvallis Gazette-Times, where they reported that Oregon State assistant volleyball coach Ron Zwerver has been named as one of the five members of the 2017 class for the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Zwerver was a three-time Olympian for the Netherlands, who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
- And finally, some humor from the world of Twitter. A pretty rough called strike in a National Youth Baseball Championships (NYBC) 12U Pool Play game brought back some memories of the questionable strike zone from the College World Series games between Oregon State and LSU. Remember now, it’s only funny because it’s true.
