#40: David Morris - S/OLB

Beaver Nation anticipates the arrival of the talented in-state product, David Morris. According to scout.com, Morris was a 4-star prospect for the 2017 class. Morris played Running Back and Outside Linebacker at Sherwood High School. Morris chose Oregon State over Cal, Hawaii, Washington State, Colorado State, and Oregon. There is a strong possibility that Morris could play safety at Oregon State due to his current size (6’3 205lb.), and his strong ability to cover the field. However, it is also very likely Morris could bulk up, which would help him mold into an outside linebacker.

David Morris is an emotional player who plays the game with enormous passion, which is contagious amongst his teammates. Scouts have noted he has great vision on the field, and has a deep understanding for the game. Morris is tremendously athletic, and he has long strides, which allows him to cover the field well. Sherwood Head Coach, Greg Lawerence, stated “he is without a doubt the best overall player I ever coached.” That is an impressive statement, especially for how successful the Sherwood program has been.

Will Morris play as a true freshmen in 2017? He has impressive size and athleticism to play in the defensive backfield, and he may be too talented to redshirt. However, there is also the possibility that the Beaver coaching staff would like Morris to bulk up to play outside linebacker. It will be interesting to find out where Morris will fit once Fall camp starts. Head Coach Gary Andersen and his staff are very excited to have David Morris. Defensive Coordinator Kevin Clune will have a substantial asset in Morris to help improve the Beaver Defense, and become a force to be reckoned with.
