#41: Nick Porebski - Punter

The star of the Beavers special teams unit, punter Nick Porebski is everything a coach would want to have in a player at his position. Porebski packs a strong punch on his kicks, averaging 41.3 yards per punt a season ago, while also being consistent and reliable at all times. So, it’s no surprise that for the second straight year in a row, the Australian punter named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch-list, an accolade given at the end of each season to the best overall punter in college football. But that begs the question, just who is Nick Porebski?

As seen in the clip, Porebski is a native of Melbourne, Australia who was an Australian Rules Football player until a series of injuries caused him to take a shot at the American version of the game. With some help from ProKick Australia, a program that helps work with Australian punters and kickers to earn scholarships here in the United States, Porebski found himself with a chance to attend Snow College (UT).

After one season (in two years) at Snow, in which he was named a JUCO All-America First-Team selection, Porebski decided to transfer to Oregon State, where he immediately become a central figure in new-head coach Gary Andersen’s special teams plans. For the past two seasons, the actual act of punting has never been a concern for the Beavers, as Porebski has always been that familiar face who’s able to flip the field position on opponents at a moment’s notice. However, the goal for Andersen and company now, is to see less and less of Porebski on the field and more of the offense finishing drives.

But as far as Porebski is concerned in his final go-round in Corvallis, it’s just simply more of the same, as he does whatever he can to help Oregon State be successful.
