Fall camp is underway, and we’re just over a month away from the start of Beaver football. As we rev up our coverage, we’re going to be counting down 21 of the players who will make the most impact on the 2021 squad. Today, we’re taking a look at running back Deshuan Fenwick.

#15 - Deshaun Fenwick

  • Position: Running Back
  • Class: RS Sophomore
  • Height/Weight: 6’ 2”, 230 lbs
  • Hometown: Bradenton, Florida / Braden River HS

Oregon State knew their running back picture would not be clear after the departure of Jermar Jefferson, but when a new player came into the fold in the form of Deshaun Fenwick, a transfer from South Carolina, the exciting promise of a new wrinkle suddenly emerged.

Fenwick didn’t “wow” during his time with the Gamecocks, posting just 297 yards on 54 carries in 2020 in a role that was mostly complementary, but he has shown flashes of brilliance at times and caught the ball 14 times out of the backfield, putting him in a situation very similar to fellow running back BJ Baylor, such as when he’s given his chance, he could make the most of it.

How the time will be split between Fenwick and Baylor is still one of the biggest questions for the Oregon State offense but regardless, both options should be able to work alongside one another and challenge for playing time in a naturally competitive nature. That’s how Fenwick earned our #15 spot on our “Top 21 Players For 2021” countdown.
