Fall camp is underway, and we’re just over a month away from the start of Beaver football. As we rev up our coverage, we’re going to be counting down 21 of the players who will make the most impact on the 2021 squad. Today, we’re taking a look at linebacker Andrzej Hughes-Murray.
#20 - Andrzej Hughes-Murray
- Position: Linebacker
- Class: RS Senior
- Height/Weight: 6’ 2”, 245 lbs
- Hometown: Federal Way, Washington / Federal Way HS
If you recognize the name Andrzej Hughes-Murray and feel like he’s been around for a while, then don’t go crazy checking your calendars. You’d be right on about his time in Corvallis. The outside linebacker arrived on campus back in 2016 and played as a true freshman, meaning 2021 would mark his sixth go-round on the Beavers depth chart. Nothing like making the most of your college experience.
A clear veteran leader at this point, Hughes-Murray is one of Oregon State’s most astounding players off-the-field, as he’s collected a litany of accolades including Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention & Honor Roll distinctions, being named a two-time semi-finalist for the Campbell Trophy and more. On-the-field though is where some fans would like to see a bit more out of him, an opportunity he’ll get to prove in a full-time outside role this season.
For his career, Hughes-Murray has tallied 101 tackles in 37 games, good enough for 2.7 tackles per outing, including 13.5 tackles for loss. He’s also added three pass deflections and two fumble recoveries during his stay.
