Fall camp is underway, and we’re just over a month away from the start of Beaver football. As we rev up our coverage, we’re going to be counting down 21 of the players who will make the most impact on the 2021 squad. Today, we’re taking a look at running back BJ Baylor.

#20 - BJ Baylor

  • Position: Running Back
  • Class: RS Junior
  • Height/Weight: 5’ 11”, 205 lbs
  • Hometown: Wharton, Texas / Wharton HS

A talented tailback whose waited his turn behind the record-breaking Jermar Jefferson, it seemed like 2021 would be BJ Baylor’s time to time to take over before Deshaun Fenwick transferred in from South Carolina, clouding the backfield picture. Baylor now still has the potential to carry the load for the Beavers, but nothing is granted in front of him. He’ll have to work for every touch he gets, especially in crucial third-down, short-field and red-zone situations.

However, the one thing that remains consistent about Baylor is that his upside is never in question and when he does get that time on the field, he carries the load with no issue. He also maintains a dual-threat option as a passing target out of the backfield and has clearly worked on his dynamics in his time on campus, running more level and behind his pads each season and becoming a more conscious runner of patience and waiting for holes to open.

While it definitely won’t be a walk in the park, look for Baylor to answer the phone when his number is called this year.
