Fall camp is underway, and we’re just over a month away from the start of Beaver football. As we rev up our coverage, we’re going to be counting down 21 of the players who will make the most impact on the 2021 squad. Today, we’re taking a look at a player we haven’t seen much of the past few seasons, linebacker Addison Gumbs.
#18 - Addison Gumbs
- Position: Linebacker
- Class: RS Sophomore
- Height/Weight: 6’ 3”, 253lbs
- Hometown: Hayward, California / Stellar Prep High School
Oregon State is set to have one of the most stacked linebacker groups in the conference between Andrzej Hughes-Murray, Avery Roberts and Omar Speights. The only question for the unit is if Addison Gumbs is finally going to be able to take the field as a full time starter.
Gumbs transferred to Oregon State from Oklahoma in 2018, but after taking a redshirt season his 2019 was ended early by an ACL tear in his second game as a Beaver. He looked set to return in 2020, but a hamstring injury kept him out the entire season. So is 2021 the year we finally get a look at what Gumbs is capable of?
Gumbs has looked good in his brief time on the field, and he came out of California as a very highly rated recruit. If he can stay healthy, Gumbs could become the elite edge rusher he has the potential to be, and make the Beavers linebacker one of the most fearsome in the Pac-12, maybe in the nation.
