Both Beaver Soccer Teams were in action last weekend. Here’s what went down.
On Friday, in their first game of the season, the Men’s Team fell to Syracuse 2-1. Syracuse came out firing right out of the gate, scoring their first goal in the fifth minute. Oregon State would battle back, out shooting the Orange in the first half 7-3, but failed to find the net.
In the 69th minute, Forward Don Tchilao found the net on a penalty kick for the Beavers’ first goal of the season, tying the game 1-1. Unfortunately, Syracuse came right back and scored five minutes later to take the lead back. That 2-1 margin would be the final score, despite some beautiful attempts from the Beavers.
GOAL. Don Tchilao ties this game up for @BeaverMSoccer.

On Monday, the Men got back on the field to take on Sacramento State. Once again the Beavers got into an early hole, with Sac State finding the net in the eighth minute. Then, for the second game in a row, Don Tchilao was awarded a Penalty Kick and capitalized on it, tying the game 1-1.
In the second half, Gloire Amanda gave the Beavers their first lead of the season. That was all the Beavers needed, taking the game 2-1 for new Head Coach Terry Boss’s first win at Oregon State.

The split this past weekend leaves the Beavers at 1-1. They’ll next host Xavier on Friday, August 31st. Head down to Lorenz field at 6:00 PM PT to check that game out. Following that, the Beavers will travel to State College on Monday, September 3rd, to take on Penn State in their first road trip of the season. That game will at 10 AM, so if you’re free on a Monday morning and have a BTN Plus Subscription, be sure to watch.
The Women’s Team had a rough go of things in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they first took on #18 Kansas. They Jayhawks scored three times in the first half to build a 3-0 lead. While the defense would lock things down in the second half, the offense could never capitalize on the few opportunities they got, managing only two shots, for a 3-0 loss.
Their next game, on Sunday against Nebraska, was sadly much the same. The Huskers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, and while the defense would hold them to only one shot in the second half, the offense could not find the back of the net.
The pair of 0-3 losses drops the Beavers to 0-4 so far this season. They’ll try to get their first win when they’re back at Lorenz Field on Friday, August 31st when they take on Gonzaga. That game will be at 8:00 PM PT. Following that, they’ll host Dartmouth on Sunday, September 2nd, at 1:00 PM PT. You can either follow both games on twitter or get down to Lorenz and see the game in person. I recommend the latter.
That’s all for this week, but we’ve got a full slate of action this weekend, so be sure to check back to see how Beaver Soccer performs.
