- In a long list of weird internet content that’s been published since the sports world went on hiatus, this list compiled by Jeff Goodman from Stadium of college basketball coaches favorite movies and television shows is actually worth it’s weight in gold. I won’t play spoiler on what Oregon State’s Wayne Tinkle picked, but let’s say Mel Gibson has something to do with it. Also, if you want a coach to maybe share the tube with during your time in quarantine, Rutgers’ Steve Pikiell may be your go-to guy.
- Some good news coming in during these uncertain times, former Beavers football stand-out Brandin Cooks is doing his part to help his hometown of Stockton, California combat the coronvirus, by making a $50,000 donation to establish the Stockton Children’s Fund. The fun will work to help with “food insecurity, lack of available child care and school closures” for children and teens affected.
- Some other in-state university may be the presumed stars of the 2020 WNBA Draft, but according to ESPN’s most recent mock draft done by Mechelle Voepel, the Beavers may have a first-round pick waiting in the fold. Voepel projects that star guard Mikayla Pivec will be selected with the #11 overall pick in the late first-round by the Seattle Storm, which would be a nice local connection for the Lynnwood, Washington native. DraftSite.com however expects the former Oregon State stand-out to hear her name called a bit later on April 17th.
- Guess who’s back? Back again. (Yes, cabin fever has set in, thanks for asking). If you guessed Talite “JR” Moala, then you should probably become a psychic or something, because the former Oregon State assistant has returned to the Beavers to serve in a graduate assistant role, where he’ll also help the program with recruiting. Previously, Moala was on the Oregon State staff from 2015 to 2017, when he served “as a quality control coach and defensive intern”.
- And finally, former Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen has an odd suggestion for how the upcoming college football season should go if teams can’t practice by June 1st...the current football coaching staff’s stability may give the Beavers an advantage on the recruiting front...Gary Payton really wants you to stay home...and George Karl includes “The Glove” in top five starters of all time.
