Oregon State got some more bad news Thursday morning, as starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.
It’s not a surprising decision considering the departure of Head Coach Jonathan Smith and much of the assistant coaching staff. This will be Uiagalelei’s second transfer. He came to Corvallis after spending a few years at Clemson. In his one year as a Beaver Uiagalelei was impressive, throwing for 2,638 yards and 21 touchdowns.
While he may move on to another program, Uiagalelei may also declare his eligibility for the NFL Draft. After his year at Oregon State Uiagalelei has improved his draft standing, but it’s expected to be a crowded year for quarterbacks in next year’s draft.
The potential nightmare scenario for Beaver fans is that Uiagalelei elects to play with his brother Matayo and replaces Bo Nix down in Eugene.
For the Beavers, the big question will be what Aidan Chiles plans are. Chiles already saw a lot of action for the Beavers this season, and if he sticks around should be the starter for whatever bowl game OSU ends up in. The transfer portal could prove tempting though, so as Beaver fans we can only wait and see what happens.
