With only 10 days left until Oregon State starts fall camp, we are counting down by previewing the 25 most valuable football players that will help lead the Beavers to a successful 2016 season. We'll count-down by highlighting a new player each day until fall camp starts. To follow-up from yesterday's selection of outside linebacker Titus Failauga, today's pick goes to redshirt senior right guard, Gavin Andrews.
#10 Gavin Andrews - Right Guard
With the offensive line expected to be one of the stronger points of Oregon State's offense this upcoming season, the focus put on the big boys up front could help to kick-start the Beavers team as a whole. It's no wonder that key pieces like right guard Gavin Andrews will be viewed as one of the most valuable players on the Oregon State depth chart.
Playing alongside senior tackle Dustin Stanton, the dynamic duo of Andrews and Stanton should combine to hold down the right side of the line, as most of the defensive pass-rush emphasis will likely be away from senior left tackle Sean Harlow. Andrews will also need to provide support for a run game that finished 6th in the Pac-12 a season ago, averaging 177.7 yards per game last season.
While Andrews may not be a flashy or well-known name, with bookends like Harlow and Stanton anchoring the line, the potential of a player like Andrews to make some huge strides this season is open and available. Also listed as a second string center on the Fall Camp depth chart, in an emergency or injury situation, Andrews could be called to move around to different positions on the line. As for most teams, the key to controlling the game from the offensive side of things starts up front, where Andrews will now step into his role as one of the feature earth-movers on this Beavers team.
Our "Fall Camp Countdown" continues tomorrow with the #10 Most Valuable Player for the Beavers in 2016.
