With only 14 days left until Oregon State starts fall camp, we are counting down by previewing the 25 most valuable football players that will help lead the Beavers to a successful 2016 season. We'll count-down by highlighting a new player each day until fall camp starts. To follow-up from yesterday's selection of sophomore H-Back Noah Togiai, today's pick goes to sophomore outside linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu.
#14 Bright Ugwoegbu - Outside Linebacker
Listed at 6' 2", 220 pounds, Bright Ugwoegbu may not be a known commodity as one of the most talented linebackers in the Pac-12 but it likely won't take long for the Pac-12 to be well aware of just who this rising sophomore is.
Like most of Oregon State's roster, Ugwoegbu is still a developing talent but the widespread impact that he can have on the trajectory of this year's Beavers team and the program going forward is expected to be immense. A solid contributor who posted 17 tackles in seven games for Oregon State last season, Ugwoegbu now becomes one of the featured edge players on a Beavers' defense that is hoping to take some massive steps this season.
Ugwoegbu heads into Fall Camp as the starter for the outside linebacker position that may actually be one of the most veteran-laden units on the Oregon State depth chart. If the early program starters hold, Ugwoegbu will be flanked on the opposite outside spot by junior Titus Failauga and inside by both junior Manase Hungalu and star senior linebacker, Caleb Saulo. The mix of veteran leadership and some athletic influx from Ugwoegbu has many Beavers fan hopeful that the linebacking core could develop into one of the team's more consistent strengths.
Our "Fall Camp Countdown" continues tomorrow with the #13 Most Valuable Player for the Beavers in 2016.
The List So Far:
#14: Bright Ugwoegbu (OLB)
