Game Notes / Utah Game Notes

Oregon St. and Utah conclude their Pac-12 campaign opening weekend series today with another mid-day game in Salt Lake City.

The Beavers will be looking for a sweep for the second year in a row against the Utes, after ensuring a series win with yesterday's 5-1 victory.

Andrew Moore made a solid return from his weekend off due to the flu, and the Beaver bats chipped away for 10 hits, and runs in each of the 2nd thru 5th innings. The improving bullpen had another good outing, with 4 arms combining to allow only 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 2/3 innings.

Today, the Beavers will start junior LHP Jace Fry (3-0, 2.01 ERA), who hopes to continue what has been a good and improving season, after missing nearly all of last year recovering from shoulder surgery. The last time Fry took the mound, he threw a 2 hit complete game 2-0 shutout win at Northern Illinois to kickoff a double header sweep last Saturday.

The Utes will counter with senior LHP Tanner Banks (1-3, 6.38 ERA). Banks got knocked around pretty hard in his last start, and didn't get out of the first inning at rival BYU in a Tuesday game back on March 4. Banks gave up 4 hits and 2 walks, which turned into 6 earned runs.

Banks wasn't the only Ute pitcher the Cougars clawed up though, as they scored 6 runs in the first inning, and 12 more in the second, on their way to a 20-3 win.

Andy Peterson is back in the second slot in the batting order today, Jeff Hendrix is back on the bench, and Nick Rulli gets the start in center today. Here's today's Oregon St. lineup"
