The safety is a big-time playmaker.

The clock is ticking for college football. We hear news everyday; UConn and DIII cancelled football for 2020. Other conferences (Big Ten, MWC) are following the led of the Pac-12 players and issuing their own requests/demands. Despite the uncertainty we press on with the top-20 list for the 2020 season.

#10 David Morris - Safety

Beaver fans know what David Morris is capable of doing when he’s healthy, but health issues have been the problem for the redshirt junior. Morris came to OSU as part of the 2017 recruiting class where he was rated as the 3rd best prospect in Oregon and the 351st best nationally.

They weren’t quite sure where Morris would play, originally thinking he might fit well as an outside linebacker. But after a shift to safety, coaches knew that was a position he could thrive in. During the 2017 season (his freshman year), Morris played in 11 games (starting 7), making 75 tackles, with an interception and pass breakup. While it’s not great that your safety ends up with the second most tackles on the team, it’s better than the alternative of them missing tackles and giving up long touchdowns.

After his freshman season, Morris would be plagued by injury after injury, mainly broken bones in his right, then left foot. But Morris has found a possible solution to his foot problems with specially made 3D-printed insoles for his cleats. He played 10 games as a junior racking up 43 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.

David Morris might benefit more than any other OSU player with the delayed start (Sept. 26th) and shortened season (10 games). With the graduation of Jalen Moore, David Morris will be asked to be a leader in the secondary. I’m expecting him to have a big season for Oregon State.

Projected Statistics:

68 Tackles, 4 PBU’s, 2 INT’s, 1 FF, 1 FR.
