- Former Oregon State and NFL star Chad Johnson, the former Mister Chad Ochocinco, hit the Oregonian’s headlines by donating a mega tip at Florida restaurant that he visited, after the establishment re-opened from the quarantine period. Johnson, who at the very least could be called a very interesting character, has also been staying busy working out recent NFL Draft picks in the Detroit Lions’ Jeff Okudah and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ CJ Henderson.
- Some guy named Travis Johannes who I can confirm writes here at our site for us, spoke to Bleeding Green Nation, SB Nation’s Philadelphia Eagles blog, about our favorite new NFL tight end, Noah Togiai. Travis was honest with the City of Brotherly Love’s fans about Togiai’s subpar blocking ability, but noted some strengths of the team’s UDFA signing and how he can help their franchise going forward.
- If there’s one athlete from all of history that I wouldn’t want to go back and forth in a war of words against, it would be Gary Payton. “The Glove” undoubtedly came up during The Last Dance documentary, the closest thing we have to true sports right now and apparently, he wasn’t too happy with Michael Jordan’s quote about not worrying about his defensive prowess. He spoke to Ryan Hollins and Brendan Haywood about his reaction to the footage on “The Opinionated 7-Footers” podcast.
- CBS Sports filled their mid-May, non-sports filled void by ranking the backup quarterbacks (yeah, the backups) in the NFL and former Beavers legend Sean Mannion, who recently claimed the starting spot on our BTD’s All-Decade team, was ranked as the 29th best reserve in the league. The Minnesota Vikings gunslinger is entering his sixth season in the NFL and has played in just 13 games. Recent Jacksonville Jaguars draftee Jake Luton was not listed, as last season’s backup Joshua Dobbs was given the backup role.
- And finally, the NCAA Division I Council has voted “to allow athletes in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball to resume voluntary on-campus workouts, beginning June 1”. This decision by the council is the first (presumed) steps into the return of college sports from the COVID-19 pandemic, while at the same time, many state governors such as Texas’ Greg Abbott and California’s Gavin Newsom have already passed comments about their optimistic viewpoint for the return of both collegiate and professional sports.
