Projections/Thoughts:
Adley Rutschman is far and away the best player in this draft. Baseball America dubbed him the best prospect since Bryce Harper was drafted in 2010. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee that he will be picked No. 1; as there is rumors that Baltimore will go with a high school player at #1 to save money and distribute more money to their other draft picks. I don’t think that’ll happen, but if it does the Royals will be very happy campers picking him up at #2.
The next highest rated prospects according to Baseball America are Grant Gambrell (#111), Beau Philip (#254) and Brandon Eisert (#348). Those three should all be fairly high draft picks (top-10 rounds).
After that it’s kind of hard to project since it depends on if a team likes a certain player or not. I do think Jake Mulholland and Andy Armstrong will get selected, but after that it gets very difficult to predict. Also, the Beavers are bringing in a big recruiting class (13 players) and a number of those high school kids will be selected and a few could choose to go Pro immediately.
Oregon State recruits who could be drafted over the next three days: Will Frisch, Cesar Valero Sanchez, Justin Boyd, Cooper Hjerpe, Drew Gilbert, Joe McLaughlin and Jack Washburn. Keep an eye out for those names and what round they are selected in, if any are drafted in the first 10 rounds, there’s a good chance they go Pro immediately.
However it shakes out I don’t think it’ll be like in 2018 when five position players and one pitcher was selected early and they all left for the Pros, but I could be wrong. At the very least I would expect multiple pitchers to be selected.
