I am the newest contributor to Building the Dam, my name is Justin Sattelmaier and I am an ex-Oregon State football player, #75 last year. I recently retired due to medical issues preventing me from performing at the level needed to compete at a PAC-12 Level. I played offensive line for a year at Oregon State after spending my Red-shirt year at Western Oregon and my First year of eligibility at Palomar Community College. I picked Oregon State over Cal and Colorado to continue my football career. Obviously it did not work out as I had planned but I am looking forward to my post football career.
I am originally from Temecula, California. Temecula is in the valley between San Diego and Los Angeles in Southern California. I am in my last year of double majoring in English and Education, I will graduate in spring 2019. Football was the reason I initially came to Oregon to play at WOU and brought me back, as OSU was my first choice of colleges out of community college. After tearing my ACL and meniscus in high school, WOU was my only option outside community college to play, but after two terms I knew I was destined to play at a higher level. That led me back home to play at a JUCO and committing to Oregon State after 5 games.
It was easy to fall in love with Corvallis and Oregon State after my official visit during the Civil War game. After the win over Oregon I was sold that OSU was where I was meant to be. Storming the field and celebrating the civil war drought is still one of the best experiences I have been a part of. The fans at OSU have always been the best and have always supported me through my short career. The love I received from the fans was unmatched from anywhere else I had experienced. Now I’m hoping to give back in any way possible and hopefully writing about some Beaver football from a more insiders look will help with that. I am excited to start writing and can’t wait for season to start. Go Beavs!
