Quick Links: Oregon State Looks For Answers At The CWS

Saturday was weird. Let’s all have a chill Sunday and get ready for a better Monday, okay?

  • Saturday was a rough day for the Oregon State baseball team. Three errors and some unusually bad pitching from the veterans doomed them to a day one loss to North Carolina in the College World Series. While I’m sure you’ve already read our recap of that fateful game, Jim Lohmar of the main SB Nation site also did a little recap that you can read here.

  • In the second game of Saturday, the Huskies of UW played Mississippi State with a spot next to Oregon State in the losers’ bracket on the line. It was tied 0-0 right up until MSU shortstop Luke Alexander hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to get the Bulldogs ANOTHER late win.

Check out the recaps of that game from our friends at UW Dawg Pound and For Whom The Cowbell Tolls and note the difference in tone.

UW will face Oregon State on Monday morning at 11 PT with the loser of that game catching a flight back to the PNW empty handed.

  • Want to forget about baseball for a minute? Understandable.

Football recruiting has had a huge few days with more commits likely on the way. John Canzano of The Oregonian and Brandon Huffman from 247 Sports talked about Jonathan Smith’s early success on Canzano’s radio show on Friday. Read the recap of the episode here.

  • Finally, in “not really sports, but screw it because we need something to smile about” news, Oregon State graduation ceremonies were held on Saturday! 7,128 people graduated receiving 7,435 degrees, which is a record for the school. KEZI, a local news station in Springfield, Oregon ran a report on the ceremonies.
