The Beavs needed a win, and they got one by the skin of their teeth. OSU held on to beat Arizona State 6-5 Sunday afternoon in Corvallis in the finale of the three game series.

OSU tallied 13 hits to ASU’s nine and ASU committed the only error of the day.

Arizona State scored first with an RBI single from catcher Lyle Lin in the top of the first. Then a two-run Cadyn Grenier homer in the bottom of that inning gave the Beavs the lead.

Troy Claunch added a solo homer in the bottom of the second.

A Preston Jones RBI single in the next inning made it 4-1, but Arizona State would respond quickly and in a big way. Spencer Torkelson earned a bases-loaded walk just before Gage Canning singled to left center, scoring two runs to tie it up.

ASU would briefly take the lead with an RBI double by Jump in T6. Then the Beavs got back on top in B7 with RBIs by Michael Gretler and Troy Claunch. Gretler now has a hit in each if his last 15 games.

Grant Gambrell pitched the first four innings, allowing five hits and four runs with five walks and three strikeouts. Dylan Pearce pitched 3.2 in relief giving up four hits and a run, with four strikeouts and a walk. Pearce was awarded his second win of the year and is now 2-0. Jake Mulholland pitched the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and earned his twelfth save of the year.

Oregon State takes the series with the victory and improves to 32-7 on the season. Next, OSU heads to Eugene to face Oregon in a non-league game. Check back tomorrow for more on that game.
