Coming off an in home visit with new defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa on Thursday, 247Sports 3-star outside linebacker John McCartan made his way to Corvallis for his official visit.

Just one day after arriving on campus, McCartan sealed the deal and made things official by committing to Oregon State on Saturday night via his Twitter account:

McCartan, who is listed as a 6-foot-5, 225-pound hybrid athlete, played both outside linebacker and tight end at Santa Margarita Catholic is being recruited by Oregon State as an linebacker.

One of the many reasons McCartan chose the Beavers was the way he was able to connect with both the new staff and current players. Also being able to see and understand Jonathan Smith’s plan for how he plans on changing things in Corvallis, while also playing in the PAC-12 still relatively close to home helped the Beavers secure McCartan’s commitment.

Before committing to the Beavers, McCartan held offers from Fresno State, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Washington State and others while also receiving interest from Cal, Notre Dame, San Diego State, and UCLA. McCartan was also scheduled to take an official visit to Washington State, but now has cancelled that trip.

McCartan becomes the second linebaker in the 2018 class for Oregon State joining early signee Craig Francois. McCartan plans to sign with Oregon State on February 7th.
