Oregon State Women Ranked 8th, 3 Beavers All-Conference

Beavers hold on to a 2 seed, at least for now, in the aftermath of meltdown as Stanford

The 22 point loss Oregon State suffered against Stanford Friday night probably kicked any faint hope of a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament down the road, but the national respect that Stanford has means the Beavers weren't penalized too harshly for the clunker, at least after they eventually pulled it together at California, and pulled away for the 10 point win that still seized their lions share of the Pac-12 regular season title, and the #1 seed in Seattle for this week's Pac-12 Tournament when UCLA upset Arizona State.

This week's AP poll has Oregon State at #8, only 1 slot down from last week. Arizona State also slid down, bust just 1 slot, from 9 to 10.

Stanford and UCLA in turn bubbled upward, from 13th and 14th to 11th and 12th.

The four are the four top seeds in Seattle, with Arizona State #2, UCLA #3, and Stanford #4. Which means the Beavers could encounter the Cardinal on Saturday night, but won't face both the Sun Devils and Bruins.

As far as bracketology goes, Charlie Creme, ESPN's women's hoops expert, feels Oregon State will need to reach Sunday night's Pac-12 Championship game to retain a 2-seed, though not necessarily win it.

The Pac-12, for some reason, announces their All-Conference teams before the conference tournament is played, which tends to imply its not really relevant, even though some of the best matchups of the season happen there. So the all-conference team has been announced, though they will wait until tonight (no idea what might change during that time frame) to announce the Players and Coach of the Year.

Oregon State seniors Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Weisner have been named to the 15 person team for the third time, and are joined by Sydney Wiese, who has been named to the list twice now.

Hamblin also made the 5 person All-Defensive team, also for the third year in a row. Gabriella Hanson and Weisner were Honorable Mention to the All-Defensive team.

No Beavers were named to the All-Freshman team, but Katie McWilliams was on that unit's Honorable Mention list.
