Oregon State hosted Arizona State at the Gill Coliseum thursday night. The beavers played their second league game of the season after dropping the league open to Oregon in Eugene. They went into the game thursday night undefeated at home.
The Sun Devils would draw first blood of the game. The first few possessions of the game were back and forth, the game stayed close. Gary Payton ll started strong scoring eight of the beavers 10 points. Including a great inbound pass from Olaf Schaftenaar who passed the ball all the way down court to a open Payton who would be fouled on the layup, but miss the free throw missing out on a three point play.
The beavers would pull away in the first half going into halftime with a 29-20 lead. The Sun Devils had a rough first half with a eleven turnovers.
In the second half the beavers would lose starter Olaf Schaftenaar to a sprain ankle he would not come back. Although he's been playing well in the last few games he wasn't much of a factor in this one with only three points.
The Sun Devils would make a run cutting the lead to 44-41 but the Beavers would battle back. As the Sun Devils try to test them at the free throw line but would pay with the beavers making seven of eight free throw. Malcolm Duvivier would lead the beavers with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. Gary Payton ll would finished with 12 points, 2 steals, 1 assists, and 5 rebounds. Erick Jacbson would lead the Sun Devils with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 1 steal.
The Beavers are now 9-0 at home, improving to 10-4, 1-1 in the Pac 12 and six in the standings in the Pac 12. The Sun Devils drop to 8-7, 0-2 in the Pac 12 and last place in the Pac 12.
