Oregon St. starts their first Pac-12 home series of the season, and the Arizona St. Sun Devils are the Beavers' guests. It's also the first televised game of the season for the defending Pac-12 Champion Beavers.
Arizona St. won their Pac-12 opener, beating Washington 4-1 last Friday, but the Sun Devils dropped the weekend games to the visiting Huskies 9-3 Saturday, and 4-3 in 11 innings on Sunday, after rallying from behind in the 9th to force the extra baseball.
The Sun Devils then split a pair of mid-week home games against Wichita St. before heading north.
Arizona St. took the Tuesday game 9-5, but dropped a 12-9 slugout with Shockers Wednesday.
Oregon St. swept Utah in Salt Lake City, extending their winning streak to 10 games. The Beavers have won 14 of their last 15 games, as their pitching is becoming overwhelming.
Oregon St. had a rare week with no mid-week games, scheduled as such because it was finals week in Corvallis.
Senior LHP Ben Wetzler (3-0, 0.76 ERA) has assumed the Friday night starter slot, and allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks, and 1 run, while striking out 3 Utes in his last outing, the Beavers' 6-1 win last Friday night.
The Sun Devils will counter with sophomore LHP Vrett Lilek (3-0, 0.96 ERA). Lilek gave up only 1 run to Washington last Friday in Arizona St.'s 4-1 win over the Huskies, and none to Tennessee the week before in the opener of that series, a 3-1 win over the Volunteers, working 7 innings in both outings.
