Oregon St. has landed one of the top in-state prospects for their 2015 recruiting class, with the commitment of offensive lineman Blake Brandel from Portland, OR.
Brandel is 6'7", and weighs 270 lbs., and is a 3 star prospect according to both Rivals.com and Scout.com.
Brandel plays for defending Oregon 6A State Champion Central Catholic.
Here's a look at his highlights:
Brandel was attracted to Oregon St. after attending the Oregon State Spring Showcase, and talked to Beavers offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh. Brendel, a 3.4 GPA student, was also attracted by the highly regarded Oregon St. School of Engineering, and the combination of the football and engineering programs, as well as the campus, made Oregon St. what Brandel described as his "dream school."
Brandel's mom and an aunt and uncle also attended Oregon St., so there is a family connection as well.
Brandel chose Oregon St. over offers from Pac-12 schools Colorado and Washington St., and also Nevada of the Mt. West, and had had discussions with Arizona and BYU as well.
Brandel represents an important commit for coach Mike Riley, keeping an in-state prospect in state, and winning out over common key recruiting competitors, especially given that Brandel's solid academic resume means he won't be an episode of admissions uncertainty.
