Jared Cunningham to test NBA draft?
Andy Katz of ESPN is reporting that Oregon State guard Jared Cunningham intends to "test" the NBA draft--putting his name in the ring to see if he might be drafted. He's not committing to the pros at this point, or doing anything yet that would imperil his NCAA eligibility.
A bit of advice to Jared: Consider the career of ex-OSU DB Brandon Browner. He's done well in the NFL, making the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement, but his career path through the pros was no doubt hindered by his decision to come out early. He went undrafted and played some in the CFL before (and also suffered an injury) before finally sticking with an NFL team.

My guess is
he finds out he’s not a first rounder and comes back to school. If he gets told that he actually is a first rounder I can’t blame him for going though.

I couldn't blame him either
DraftExpress pegs him as a possible first-rounder in 2013, but I can’t see him being drafted this year. The draft is too deep in 2012, and while Cunningham is a talented player, he’s not NBA ready.
Of course, one other interesting compare with Browner is the option of the D-League. Browner came out too early, got hurt, and developed in Canada. Right now, the NBDL seems to be stigmatized among NBA players—there’s a bias in the league that if you aren’t drafted (or signed by an NBA team immediately) and do a stint in the D-League, that you’re simply not NBA material. Perhaps the Jeremy Lin saga will break down that barrier. That said—would you rather play basketball for free in Corvallis, or get paid to play basketball in Boise (and have no other annoying limitations on how much coaching you are permitted to receive)?

Staying in school seems like the best choice
It keeps the players on a bigger stage, especially come tournament time, even conference tourneys. Plus if you get drafted teams really want you to succeed and will be patient, look at Luke Babbitt and the Blazers right now.

Nice comparison with Browner.
Too bad he’s with the damn Seachickens now…had to watch him pick-off Bradford on MNF this December from the stands at Century-Link.

Brandon Sprague is reporting that Cunningham doesn't know who that source is
Since he hasn’t made up his mind 100% yet.

I like Brandon
he’s good on the twitter. Same with J1Flight, but he never responded to me about testing the draft or not, so I’m with Sprague.
