A Spring Game That Never Was

Disclaimer

I know that I’m just a simple fan that does not pretend to know the ins and outs of football and how to run a program so this piece is written purely from this prospective so it may not be worth the digital space that this will take up so take it for what it is….

I don’t know about you guys but I’m unhappy that there is not going to be a spring game, or a spring scrimmage, ala like last years. I understand that there are too few Line men to risk injury. So my question how will this reflect and effect the program as a whole.

Star-divide

I know as most do that the marketing for the Beavers as of late, let me put this nicely, has not been very good; especially compared to the marketing machine to the south. Say what you want to say about it but it does a great job of getting the school’s name out there. That is a topic for another time. I do hope that with the new marketing director this does change but we’ll have to wait and see. The spring game I believe does a lot to get the fans up for the season. Therefore, it is the first event of the football season to spark interest of the fans for the program. For a lot or some of the fans out there this is the first and maybe the only time that they will see the Beavers live. So not having the spring game takes away this chance to show case the Beavers thus, they lose out on this first marking push and this can’t be good. Heck, I think the spring game make some money right? So there is the loss of this also to the bottom line of school too right no matter how small this might be. Even, if you have to fight with the dog days thing for parking.

Next, how is this going to look when almost all DI schools have spring games? OS has a hard enough time dispelling them myth that it is just a small school up against the big boys in the Pac-12. So not having one just exemplifies this fact even more. What is most troubling is it seems that they have not come up with anything to replace it. I don’t know about you but I feel they need to come up with something big to replace the game with. Sadly, I don’t have high hopes that this will happen. I hope I’m wrong here.

Lastly, I have to ask how bad is our recruiting that they can find enough payers to have the depth to be able to sustain some injuries, as most folks know the team is build around the lines right. I know that there are scholarship limits and some players do get hurt but if these are one of the most important positions on the team should they not have a back up plans. What happens, forbid this knock on wood and all, if the team does lose a few of these players over the off season or during the season? What is the team going to do then?

I don’t know but this does not give me much hope for the season and not having a spring game, or what have you, does not ease my feeling of doubt. At any rate I’m a fan and I love my beavers. I’ve bought my season tickets so as always here is to hope there is always hope and GO BEAVERS!!!!!

So what are you feelings of the spring game that never was?

I don't think I've seen much about this topic on here

so I figure I’d throw something out there and see if folks wanted to talk about this

Offensive Line depth won't be a problem once we hit August

I believe we signed eight offensive linemen, they’re just not on campus yet.

Obviously, I think everyone’s disappointed that there won’t be a Spring Game, but the athletic department has a chance to turn this into a positive. They could hold a type of “Fan Fest”, with autographs and all kinds of things.

i hope your right but they could also turn this in to a negative thing also

Look at how the Spring game was treated last year it. It seemed the dog day thing was more of an important event then the football team. Like i said I hope I’m wrong

They do hold a "Fan Fest"

where everybody lines up to get players autographs. They have done it in the past before the game scrimmage, and they plan to do that this year, even though there will be no scrimmage.

This entire debacle has taken the string of embarrassments of the last couple of years to a new low.
