Headed into the final series of the regular season, the 14th ranked Arizona Wildcats led the 6th ranked Oregon State Beavers by a game and a half in the Pac-12 Standings. That lead is now down to just half a game as the Beavers crushed Arizona 9-2 to move to 40-12 overall and 18-9 in the conference.
6 Beavers finished with 2 hits Thursday night. Gavin Turley started the scoring in the top of the third with a 2 run homer, and added two more runs in the top of the seventh with a single. Brady Kasper also had a two run homer in the top of the third, and also added a double in the eighth.
Travis Bazzana of course looked fantastic. He had two doubles last night, one in the third and one in the fourth. He also reached base on a walk twice. Jabin Trosky contributed a pair of singles, one in the third and one in the fifth, that each scored one run. Dallas Macias and Elijah Hainline rounded out the double digit hitters.
Aiden May stayed undefeated (now 6-0) and picked up the win. He pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7 and walking one batter. Joey Mundt pitched two solid innings of relief, where he allowed no hits or walks and struck out two batters.
Game 2 between Oregon State and Arizona gets started at 6:00 PM tonight. The Beavers are going to need to sweep the series if they want to top the final Pac-12 standings, but they’ve got an excellent shot.
