After going scoreless in two straight games against Oregon, the Beavers finally found some runs in the final game of the series. A great performance from starter Jake Pfennigs and great relief from Mitch Verburg and Jake Mulholland held the Ducks to a single run, giving Oregon State a 3-1 win. The Beavers improve to 11-3 on the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Beavers got a pair of singles back to back from Troy Claunch and Garrett Forrester. After a Joe Casey ground out advanced both runners, the Beavers had the best chance at scoring that they’d seen all weekend. Matthew Gretler was the man who finally got the Beavers on the board, with a ground out scoring Claunch. Wade Meckler followed Gretler with a two run homer, giving the Beavers a 3-0 lead.

The Ducks got one back in the top of the sixth, when Aaron Zavala scored on a Sam Olsson grounder. Oregon threatened to score again in the top of the eight, when they started the inning with a pair of singles, but Mitch Verburg came on in relief and got three quick outs to get the Beavers out of the jam. Jake Mulholland worked another quick three in the top of the ninth to give the Beavers the win.

Jake Pfennigs picked up the win as the starter. He struck out six over 5.0 innings pitched, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and no runs. Pfennigs now has a 2-0 record this year. Jake Mulholland picked up his fourth save of the season, coming in in the ninth to close out the game. He allowed one hit.

Oregon State will next welcome the Washington State Cougars to Corvallis for a three game series. The first game will be Friday, at 5:35 PM. Saturday’s game is set for 1:35, and Sunday’s for 1:05. The games will again be aired on an Oregon State Live Stream.
