Oregon State Basketball: Tres Tinkle Declares for NBA Draft

His decision isn’t final, but Tres is taking the first step toward joining the pros.

Tres Tinkle has decided to test the waters of the NBA following his junior season, declaring for the NBA Draft today, according to a report on OregonLive.com. The move allows Tinkle to hire an agent and attend the NBA Combine before making a final decision on whether or not to return to school by May 29th.

It still seems likely that Tinkle will return to Oregon State for one more year. He has not been projected in most NBA mock drafts, Still, if he impresses in pre-draft activities, it’s possible he could attract some attention.

In recent years several Oregon State players have made similar moves. Drew Eubanks and Stephen Thompson Jr. both declared for the draft before ultimately deciding to return to school. That ultimately worked out well for Eubanks, who ended up finding a role on the San Antonio Spurs after entering the draft a second time.

Losing Tinkle to the pros would be a significant blow to Oregon State that is already losing Thompson. Tinkle has led the team in scoring for the past two seasons, and been an All Pac-12 First Teamer both times.
