Tomorrow the Oregon State Football team will take the field against, well, the Oregon State Football team in the annual spring game.
Listen, I am not here to blow some smoke up your butt and pretend this is some much watch stuff. Spring games are generally boring and over-hyped, and fan bases that pack the stadium for this event really need to find something better to do. But if you’re like me and actually have nothing better to do this Saturday but head to Corvallis and watch us play ourselves here is some stuff you could look for.
The new threads
Apparently we are getting some new jerseys and they will be unveiled to season ticket holders before the game. I assume they will be unveiled to the rest of the world shortly after. It’s been a few years since the last uniform makeover, and while I don’t dislike the current jerseys they haven’t won a whole lot of games so maybe mixing it up will bring good juju or something. While I don’t suspect they will be changing the logo full time, I would be surprised if we didn’t see retro Benny with a little more regularity moving forward.
The wide receiver depth
From all the reports it sounds like the WR core is emerging into one of the best groups on the team. Fans will be particularly interested to check out Nebraska transfer Tyjon Lindsey (if he suits up) and the breakout player of the spring Jesiah Irish.
The improvement of the defensive line
I don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but the D line has not been anywhere near good in several years. There has been little to no pressure on the QB and opposing running backs put up video game numbers on a weekly basis. If the defense has any hope of being competent this year it absolutely has to start up front. Luckily there are a handful of new talents on the d-line. Couple that fact with the progression of Isaac Hodgins and Elu Aydon and there is hope. I mean it can’t get worse right?
Oh yea, that QB thing
Tristan Gebbia was supposed to come in and take over right away according to fans and media alike. I had him #1 on my QB depth chart a few weeks back. Apparently Jake Luton doesn’t read Building The Dam dot com cause he never got that memo. Finally healthy, Luton has looked like QB1 from all the reports around spring camp. There has been no indication of when the starter for the Oklahoma State game will be announced, but if it were right now it would be Jake Luton.
Are you going to the game? If so what are you watching for? Tell us below!
