In the midst of the off season for Oregon State football, here at Building the Dam we are previewing each position group and breaking down how we see the depth chart shaking out this fall. Today we take a look at Oregon State’s secondary. Here’s where I see the depth chart shaking out with just about 6 months to go before we hear anything official.
Starters:
- Jalen Moore
- David Morris
- Shawn Wilson
- Isaiah Dunn
- Kee Whetzel
2nd String:
- Omar Hicks-Onu
- Kaleb Hayes
- Jeffery Manning Jr.
- Jaydon Grant
- Charles Moku Watson
- Trajon Cotton
3rd String:
- Jaden Robinson
- Alex Austin
- Jojo Forest
- Wynston Russell
- Akili Arnold
- Kitan Oladapo
- Jordan Gregory
- Braelen Bettles
- Kase Rogers
- Mason Moran
Interestingly enough Kase Rogers was added to the secondary, joining Kee Whetzel and Mason Moran as position-movers into the Beavers secondary this off season. Kee Whetzel was initial recruited as a wide receiver, so he should have the athleticism to succeed in the secondary for the Beavers.
The safety’s should be very talented with Jalen Moore, David Morris, Jeffery Manning Jr, Omar Hicks-Onu and Kee Whetzel. The corner backs on the other hand are worrisome with an overall lack of depth and experience. Shawn Wilson and Isaiah Dunn will be solid, but behind them the Beavers will be relying a lot of young players.
Health always seems to be a struggle for the Beavers secondary. They’ve suffered a bunch of serious injuries the last couple of seasons. If they can stay healthy they should be a much improved unit in 2019 though. Look for a breakdown of Oregon State’s offensive lineman tomorrow.
