BTD’s Best All-Time Basketball Player: #3 Brent Barry v. #6 Jared Cunningham (Orange Bracket)

A more modern era showdown closes out the first round of the Orange Bracket.

Brent Barry

BTD’s Best All-Time Basketball Player: Orange Bracket

  • #1 - Gary Payton (94%) v. #8 - Phil Ricci (6%)
  • #4 - Cliff Crandall (60%) v. #5 - Ed Lewis (40%)
  • #3 - Brent Barry v. #6 - Jared Cunningham
  • #2 - Charlie Sitton (85%) v. #7 - Charlie White (15%)

#3 - Brent Barry (1991-1995)

The Case For Barry: While Brent Barry’s career averages of 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per night in 108 games for the Beavers aren’t overly impressive, it’s important to take into account how his freshman and sophomore campaigns really offset his 21 points per game average in his senior season. When the spotlight was finally Barry’s to take, he was surely one of Oregon State’s best. During his stay in Corvallis, Barry also shot a mind-boggling 48% from the field and after graduating from Oregon State, Barry was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. He would go on to play 14 seasons in the NBA, where he was a two-time NBA Champion and the winner of the 1996 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

#6 - Jared Cunningham (2009-2012)

The Case For Cunningham: Jared Cunningham was one of the few players to ever leave Oregon State early for the NBA (and have it work out for a bit), as he was selected with the 24th overall pick back in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, en route to a four year NBA career. Cunningham has found his way in the international game since then, with stays in China and Germany, and most recently, he was voted an All-Star last season for Bayern Munich. However, speaking strictly about his years with the Beavers, the first-team All-Pac-12 selection tallied 1,072 points between his junior and season campaigns alone, as one of the best pure scorers Oregon State has ever seen.
