Oregon State Gymnastics Hosts First Home Meet on Saturday

The 18th ranked Beavers take on the 23rd ranked Stanford Cardinal

Ralph Greene | OSU Athletics

After a road trip that took them to Pittsburgh and Utah, the OSU Gymnastics team returns to Gill Coliseum to take on Stanford this Saturday. The Beavers were victorious in their first meet in Pittsburgh, but lost in their second against the Utes, despite improving on the previous week’s score. That improvement was enough to bump them up in the rankings, from 25th to 18th.

Sabrina Gill and McKenna Singley have been competing for the Beavers in the all around, and will be crucial to the success of the team this season. Gill scored personal records on every apparatus at the Utah meet, and if she can continue to improve as the season goes on, she’ll be an incredible asset for Oregon State.

Other Beavers to look out for include seniors Shireen Khamedoost and Dani Dessaints, who return from last year’s team which went to the NCAA Championship. Khamedoost competes on vault and uneven bars, and scored a personal best on the uneven bars at Utah. Dessaints competes on vault and the balance beam.

Freshman Kaitlyn Yanish is also one to watch out for; she was one of Oregon State’s most highly touted recruits, and jumped into the starting lineup right away. She competes in vault, balance beam, and floor exercise, the last of which is considered her specialty.

If you want to support the team in person, get down to Gill Coliseum by 2:30 on Saturday. Otherwise, the meet will be aired on the PAC-12 Network. You can also follow Oregon State Gymnastics on twitter, and they will keep you updated.
