- On the mound, Cal State Fullerton Connor Seabold is one of the best arms that college baseball has to offer. Off the mound, he may have become one of it’s biggest “bulletin board material” guys, when he told the Orange County Register on Tuesday that the Titans welcomed a match-up with Oregon State because they feel they are the better team. It’s brash confidence from a talented player that could be used to ignite a fire within his own team...or possibly fuel the Beavers heading into Saturday’s showdown.
- Sticking to the diamond, a handful of Beavers have already been taking in the 2017 MLB Draft, including Oregon State slugging star K.J. Harrison, who was plucked with the #84 overall pick in the third round of this year’s selection process by the Milwaukee Brewers. Now part of a new organization, the catcher-turned-first baseman may be returning to his roots behind the plate, as Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the “Brew Crew” sees Harrison’s long-term potential coming at the catcher spot.
- According to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook, the Beavers are tied with the LSU Tigers as early favorites to win the College World Series, with 3/1 odds as of this morning. Louisville, Florida and Florida State are the next three probables with Texas A&M listed as the longest shot of the group at 12/1.
- Making the College World Series is quite an accomplishment for any college baseball program and despite some recent media firestorms, head coach Pat Casey was able to keep his group of Beavers focused on the task-at-hand, as noted in The Register-Guard. Most of the recent scrutiny surrounding the program, as addressed in the article, relates to the recent news involving pitcher Luke Heimlich, who the USA Today adds has gone un-drafted so far, through the first ten rounds of the MLB Draft.
- Baseball, baseball, baseball! For some solid non-baseball reading, you may want to check out the Oregonian’s recent look at the Beavers and Ducks blue-chip prospects through the years and which program has high the higher “success rate” with these players. Maybe basketball is more your thing? Then how about checking up on some of the Beavers basketball recruiting targets, who are having some busy off-seasons across the country.
