A windy night in Keizer played host to Oregon State’s 42nd win of the year, a 7-1 victory over the Portland Pilots.
Jordan Britton got his second start of the year gong 4.2 innings of work while giving up 5 hits and one unearned run. Following a short appearance from Grant Gambrell that saw the freshman issue a walk, fellow freshman Jake Mulholland got the bulk of the work out of the bullpen with 2.2 scoreless innings en route to his 6th victory of the season. Salem native Sam Tweedt closed the game out with 1.2 innings of scoreless work. The pitching staff did have to work harder than normal as the spectacular OSU defense set a season high with 4 errors.
The OSU lineup didn’t feature mainstays Nick Madrigal, KJ Harrison or Adley Rutschman, but it didn’t really matter as the Beavs still racked up 7 runs on 13 hits. A pair of 5th inning home runs from shortstop Cadyn Grenier and designated hitter Trevor Larnach blew what had been a one run game wide open for the Beavs. OSU also got big contributions from catcher Michael Gretler (2B and 3B with an RBI), outfielders Steven Kwan (2B and 3B) and Jack Anderson (2-3 2 RBIs) and second baseman Andy Armstrong (2-4 1 RBI). The trio of Madrigal, Harrison and Rutschman are expected to play this weekend.
The Beavs will welcome old friend Marty Lee’s Wazzu squad this weekend. We will have more on that series later this week.
