The Oregon State baseball team avenged its only loss on the season early this morning, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes 5-1.
Jake Thompson spun a gem for the Beavers to pick up his third win of the season (one came in relief). The Junior righty pitched an extremely efficient game going eight innings, while only giving up two hits and one run via an 8th inning home run from the Buckeyes Tre’ Gannt. Max Englebrekt closed out the game for the Beavs in a non-save situation, pitching one scoreless frame.
The Beaver bats didn’t wake up in time for first pitch, in their defense neither did I, but by mid-game the bats came alive plating three runs in the 4th, followed by one in the 6th and one in the 8th. Michael Gretler and Andy Atwood each picked up two hits for the Beavs, while freshman Adley Rutschman reached base three times in four plate appearances.
The Beavs, who have been in Surprise, Arizona for the past ten days, will return to Corvallis today and prepare for next weekend’s home series against UC Davis. We will have more on that match-up later in the week.
