When the final 35 man roster was released last week, Beaver baseball fans all scratched their heads and asked “Where’s Kyle?” noting the absence of senior Kyle Nobach. Today that question was answered via Bob Lundeberg of the Corvallis Gazette Times. Nobach will undergo surgery to repair a knee injury that has been bothering him for some time. The outfielder plans to utilize his redshirt season and return in 2018.
Nobach transferred to Oregon State following his freshman season at Everett Community College. The Marysville, Washington native hit .317 as a sophomore and .280 as a junior while battling knee issues. The reigning West Coast League (summer ball) defensive player of the year was expected to be a key piece of the Beaver’s crowded outfield picture in 2017, but decided that it was in the best interest of himself and the team to sit this year out and return healthy in 2018.
The undefeated Beavers take on Nebraska tomorrow at noon in Surprise, Arizona.
