Senior Guard Malcolm Duvivier is taking the year off from both Basketball and School for what head coach Wayne Tinkle is describing as “Personal Reasons.”
The team will certainly miss his leadership. Duvivier has averaged 6.6 points 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds in his career. His numbered dipped a bit the last couple years because Gary Payton II took over as the main distributor. But, now that Payton II is gone and Duvivier is taking the year off, there will be plenty of minutes available on the guard line for incoming players. True freshman and four star recruit, JaQuori McLaughlin could step into a starting role with Duvivier’s absence.
Check out JaQuori McLaughlin’s highlight video:
At 6-foot-3, 160 pounds, McLaughlin is a lengthy combo guard who can shoot the 3 without hesitation. He’s a special talent but could face an adjustment period facing tough competition.
Other options to vill the void include JC transfer Ronnie Stacy. Stacy averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds last season as a sophomore at Tyler Junior College, in Tyler Texas. He is a 6-foot-4 guard who will more than likely come off the bench.
Here is what Tinkle said about Stacy "Ronnie is a prototypical point guard who always looks to pass first and get his teammates involved," head coach Wayne Tinkle said in a statement. "He knows how to run the offense, get the ball to the scorers and handle pressure."
It will be interesting to see how this young group meshes together. Your first chance to see the 2016-2017 Men’s Basketball Team will be Nov 4th against Corban College.
