Oregon State will be looking to sweep the state of Kansas today, in their 8th and final game of their 2 weekend stay in Surprise, AZ. After taking 2 from Kansas State Thursday and Friday, the 5th ranked Beavers (6-1) belted Kansas (2-4) yesterday. Billy King belted a pinch-hit home run to key a 9-3 comeback win over the Jayhawks, extending Oregon Sate's winning streak to 5 games.
It's an early morning game, starting at 10 AM AST (9 AM PST & Beaver body clock time), reminiscent of Little League tournament ball, and the earliest start to an Oregon State game in recent, and even not so recent, memory.
There won't be any video again today, but we have Jay Reese's radio call and live stats.
Oregon State will send sophomore LHP Luke Heimlich (1-0, 2.84) to the mound today. Heimlich had the best outing of opening weekend for the Beavers, working an out plus into the 7th in Oregon State's 10-2 win over Utah last Monday. The Utes, notably, downed Kansas 15-1 Friday night.
Kansas will counter with freshman RHP Jackson Goddard (0-0, 6.00). Goddard only got into the 4th inning in the Jayhawks' 5-4 loss to Northern Colorado last Saturday, giving up 3 runs, 2 without getting an out in the 4th before being lifted, on 6 hits. and just 1 walk, but without any strikeouts.
