Oregon St. Adds Texas O-Line Recruit Beau Hott

Oregon St. has received its first commitment of an offensive lineman for the 2015 recruiting class, and its another Texas recruit.

Beau Hott from Plano High in Plano,TX, spent several days in Corvallis recently, visiting both the campus and the community, and with current and former members of the program, spending more time than usual on a visit, official or unofficial. His research impressed him.

"Really my trip to Corvallis was very good," Hott said in an interview with BeaverBlitz.com. "While I was there I really felt like it was a place I could call home comfortably for four or five years. I really liked the coaches, and all the players seemed to like it. Even the players that had been drafted were still hanging out there and loved it, almost like they didn't want to leave."

Coach Mike Riley has said before that the campus sells itself if he can get prospects to take a good look, and that was the case with Hott.

"The school itself, the academic part, seemed pretty promising to me," Hott felt (in the interview with BeaverBlitz.com). "With the academic support they have for the athletes, and the new study hall, I really liked that. That was a major decider for me. And  the campus was just absolutely breathtaking. It's one of the neatest campuses I've seen."

Hott is 6'3", and various weigh-ins put him at 275-280 lbs. Both Scout.com and Rivals.com have him as a 2 star recruit, but Rivals has indicated they may ultimately upgrade him to 3 stars.

Hott is also a high school wrestler, and is athletic and mobile for a big man, yet has a frame that can still fill out quite a bit between now and 2 years from now, after a potential red-shirt season.

Here's his highlight video:

Hott, who was personally picked and primarily recruited by offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh, has the speed to pull and get outside, or downfield, and still make effective blocks in open space, and on the run. Hott has also played in a passing-style offense, and has shown good footwork in particular in pass-blocking.

Hott also had offers from Air Force, Arkansas St, LA Monroe , Memphis, New Mexico, and North Texas.
