Game Notes / Arizona Game Notes
Oregon St. opens a weekend series in Tucson against Arizona tonight.
The Beavers will be looking to bounce back, after losing the last 2 games of last weekend's series against Arizona St., and after being in position to win both before the Sun Devils snatched away victory late in the games.
The Wildcats are even hungrier for a Pac-12 win, having been swept in Seattle by the Washington Huskies last weekend, after having lost the last 2 to Washington St. at Hi Corbett the weekend before. Arizona also dropped a game against Grand Canyon between the Washington series, and fell 14-6 at Arizona St. in a non-conference episode of the Territorial Cup (The 'Cats and Sun Devils play additional rivalry series games outside the conference games, similar to what the Beavers and Ducks do), so the 'Cats come into the game on a 7 game losing streak.
Oregon St. will use their tried and true method of getting back on track; send senior LHP Ben Wetzler (4-0, 0.59 ERA) out to overwhelm an opponent. It certainly worked well last Friday, when Wetzler allowed only 2 hits, and struck out 8, in the Beavers' 4-0 win over Arizona St.
Arizona will counter with senior RHP James Farris (4-1, 3.19 ERA). Farris had one of his least effective outings last Friday, giving up 7 runs and 7 hits in the 'Cats 8-7 loss at Washington, in the inauguration of the newly renovate Husky Ballpark. Farris didn't take the loss, and did have control, in that he struck out 6 against only 1 walk, but couldn't get the ball past the Husky bats often enough.
Here's tonight's Oregon St. lineup:
SS - Trever Morrison
CF - Jeff Hendrix
LF - Michael Conforto
RF - Dylan Davis
1B - Kavin Keyes
DH - Michael Howard
C - Logan Ice
3B - Caleb Hamilton
2B - Andy Peterson
P - Ben Wetzler
