After a week off for finals, Oregon St. is back in action this afternoon, hosting the Mississippi St. Bulldogs from the SEC.

It's the first time in 9 years, and just the 4th visit ever to Gill Coliseum by an SEC opponent, and only the second meeting for the Beavers with the Bulldogs, who were then the 17th ranked team in the country when they got the 76-62 win on Dec. 29, 1995 at the Far West Classic in Portland.

The Beavers are 1-2 in those previous showdowns with SEC opponents in Corvallis. Ranked LSU teams took wins in 1969 and 2005, #15 LSU 76, Oregon State 68 on Dec. 22, 1969, and #12 LSU 60, Oregon State 53 on Dec. 17, 2005.

The Beavers' lone win (they also have a win over Missouri of the SEC, but the Tigers were still in the Big 8 in 1984) was an 82-66 win over Tennessee on Dec. 22, 1990.

Oregon St. is coming in off their best win of the season last Saturday night, a 65-58 win at 6-2 Portland last Saturday night. Victor Robbins led the way from the bench, with a game high 18 points, one of 4 Beavers in double digits, and Gary Payton, Oregon St.'s leader in both scoring and boarding, had a game high 12 rebounds, part of a 12 point and 12 board double double that was his third consecutive double double.

The Bulldogs have also had a week off, but are coming off a 59-54 loss at Tulane. It was Mississippi St.'s second consecutive loss, after having opened the season 5-0.

6'8" junior forward Travis Daniels led the Bulldogs, with 13 points and 9 rebounds, and 6'9" junior forward Gavin Ware, who leads Mississippi St. in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.4 ppg & 6.4 rbg, added 11 points.

New Oregon St. head football coach Gary Andersen will also be introduced to Beaver Nation at the game.
