Early in Sunday’s matchup against the Oregon Ducks, it looked like Oregon State’s undefeated season could be coming to an end. After the first half the Ducks were up by 8, but a strong second half, led by an incredible performance from Raegan Beers, gave the Beavers a massive 62-41 victory, moving them to 12-0 on the season.

Grace Vanslooten and Raegan Beers traded opening layups for their teams, and the game remained close for the first 5 minutes. At that point, Oregon State’s shooting went cold, and the Ducks were able to build a 7 point lead. Beers eventually broke the scoring drought, but Vanslooten matched her points to put the Ducks back up 7, 15-8.

Beaver shooting stayed cold to open the second quarter, allowing the Ducks to tack on to their lead. It took the Beavers almost six minutes to score their first points of the quarter. Fortunately, some poor shooting on Oregon’s side and a stingy Beaver defense kept the Ducks’ scoring low; their lead didn’t get higher than 13 in the second.

Timea Gardiner finally got some points on the board for the Beavers with 4 minutes left in the half. and after that the Beavers started working themselves back in the game. They chipped away at the Oregon lead over the final four minutes. An AJ Marotte three in the final thirty seconds of the half got the Oregon lead down to just 8 points, 23-15.

After a slow, low scoring first half, the second half started with immediate action. Talia von Oelhoffen opened the third quarter with a three. Grace Vanslooten added two and a free throw get Oregon’s lead back to eight, but buckets began to drop fast and furious. Raegan Beers, Donovyn Hunter and AJ Marotte combined to get the Beavers within one, and then a Lily Hansford three gave OSU its first lead of the night.

Another Hansford three, a Timea Gardiner jumper and a free throw from Beers put the Beavers up by six as the third quarter ended. OSU outscored Oregon 22-8 in the third to take a 37-31 lead.

The fourth quarter continued the Beaver domination. Timea Gardiner added two more threes in the period, but Raegan Beers was once again the star scorer for the Beavs. 13 of her 24 total points came in the fourth, during which she was a perfect six for six from the field. That included six points in the last 2:30 to cap off the game in a 21 point, 62 41 Beaver win.

As previously mentioned Beers was the team’s leading scorer tonight, with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Timea Gardiner added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists, and AJ Marotte rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Next up for Oregon State is there first road trip of their conference schedule. They’ll be travelling to southern California to visit USC and UCLA for the last time as Pac-12 members. They’ll face the Trojans on Friday, January 5th and the Bruins on Sunday, January 7th.
