The NCAA announced their selections for the College Baseball Tournament Monday morning, and after an up and down season Oregon State managed to land a two seed. They’ll be headed to the Fort Worth Regional, hosted by sixth overall seed TCU, alongside three seed Dallas Baptist and 4 seed McNeese State.
The Beavers’ seeding is something of a surprise; after a rough end to the season many of the bracketology experts had dropped them down to a three seed. A strong RPI, along with finishing with a winning record in a very tough Pac-12, must have buoyed the Beavers with the selection committee.
Oregon State will now face three seed Dallas Baptist in the first round. The Beavers and the Patriots have some history; Oregon State travelled to the Dallas Regional in the 2015 Baseball Tournament, and Dallas Baptist was the team that ultimately knocked the Beavers out of the tournament.
This year’s DBU team finished the season at 37-15, and clinched a spot in the tournament with a win in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Patriots have been a tournament mainstay, having reached the postseason in the last seven seasons straight. They’ve only managed to make it to Super Regionals once.
Oregon State and Dallas Baptist are set to meet on Friday, June 4th, at 11:00 AM PT. The game will be carried by ESPN3.
