Oregon State’s Cooper Hjerpe was named the Pitcher of the Week by the National College Baseball Writer’s Association. Hjerpe’s performance against Arizona last weekend was one of the best he’s ever had, throwing 11 strikeouts over seven innings and allowing only two hits and one run. In his Freshman season Hjerpe has been a solid performer, with an ERA of 3.65 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He’s got plenty of room to grow, with games like Saturday’s showing just how high his ceiling can be.

The Beavers have lost another football player to the transfer portal, with Defensive Tackle Evan Bennett announcing his decision to leave OSU today. Bennett joined the program in 2019 and saw some action, but his redshirt freshman season in 2020 was his real debut. Bennett played in all seven games, getting two starts, and racking up 10 tackles and a pass deflection. With the Beavers D-Line losing Bennett but picking up Minnesota Transfer Keonte Schad, its going to be one of the most interesting position groups to watch heading into the 2021 season.

Matt Kagan, who had been the head coach of the Women’s Soccer team for the last two seasons, announced his resignation earlier today. In his first season as head coach, the Beavers went 11-6-2, but the team struggled in 2021, going only 4-11-1. It looks like we’re in for big changes with the women’s soccer team this offseason.

Things are going better for Men’s Soccer. After a season that saw them return to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Virginia Tech in the first round, two Beaver mainstays have been recognized with awards. Gloire Amanda and Sofiane Djeffal were both named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Best XI Teams. Amanda made the first team, while Djeffal was selected for third team honors. Its been a great season for both players, but Amanda in particular has been fantastic. He led the nation in points and goals, and was Top Drawer’s Player of the Week on three occasions.

After an impressive second place finish at the Albuquerque Regional, Oregon State’s Men’s Golf Team will be competing at the Men’s Golf Championship this weekend. 30 teams and 6 individual qualifiers will be competing at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona from May 28th to June 2nd, the Beavers among them.
