Four Beaver pitchers combined to throw a no hitter against the Washington Huskies, giving the Beavers a 3-0 win. After a rough week from the pitching unit, the team came together tonight to put on an unbelievable show. The Beavers improve to 15-5 on the season, and 3-1 in the Pac-12.
The Beavers first run came in the top of the second. After Jake Dukart singled to start the inning, Troy Claunch walked to move him to second and Jake reached third base on a foul out from Joe Casey. Washington pitcher Logan Gerling then balked with Andy Armstrong at the plate, brining Dukart home.
In the top of the fifth, the Beavers added a second run when a Garret Forrester single scored Ryan Ober. The third run came in the sixth, when Kyler McMahan hit a big fly ball with the bases loaded to score Joe Casey.
Kevin Abel got the win as the starter, moving him to 2-3 this season. Abel had one of his better games this year, striking out 7 over 6.0 innings pitched. He did walk three batters and hit three batters, but of course allowed no hits or runs.
Joey Mundt and Chase Watkins eached pitched an inning in relief. Mundt struck out 2 and walked one, while Watkins had one strikeout and no walks. Jake Mulholland came in in the ninth and got the save, his sixth this year. Some impressive fielding from Joe Casey and Jake Dukart saved the no hitter in the final frame.
Game 2 between the Huskies is set for tomorrow at 2:00 PM PT. A live stream of the game will be broadcast on Pac-12.com.
